Experience the Amalfi Coast

Starting out from and Returning to Praiano, on a Discovery of the Beauty of the Coast

It is easy to see why this stretch of coastline, overlooking the Gulf of Salerno in the southeastern part of the Sorrento Peninsula, is a World Heritage Site.

The Mediterranean landscape (made up of woods, rocky outcroppings, citrus trees, and vineyards), as well as the ancient hamlets (true nativity scenes suspended on cliffs above the sea), outline the gentle stretches destined to remain forever imprinted in the memory of the fortunate visitor.

What to Do and See on the Amalfi Coast?

This is a question that is almost impossible even to attempt to answer, since there are countless itineraries that wind around through nature, culture, folklore, sports, and food and wine.

We will therefore try to provide just a summary of the main attractions, at least the most famous ones, knowing that we are being unfair to all those magical nooks and crannies that no one knows about and that absolutely must be discovered, those little corners of the heart that make the Amalfi Coast one of the most dreamed-of destinations in the world.

Praiano, the Only Village Where the Sun Slips Down into the Sea

Among the lesser-known but more interesting destinations on the Amalfi Coast, Praiano stands out not only for its extraordinary panoramic views, roadside votive shrines, colorful streets and steps leading down to the sea. What makes it so very magical are first and foremost its sunsets, one-of-their-kind on the entire Coast.

Don’t miss:
  • the Church of San Gennaro, decorated with Baroque stuccowork and made famous by the majolica-tiled dome, a symbol of the Coast, which you can also admire from our panoramic terrace
  • the sun-kissed Gavitella cove, from which you can admire a dazzling sunset, against the backdrop of Positano and Capri
  • the Convent of Santa Maria a Castro, which you can reach on foot from the center of Praiano, surrounded by green mountains, from which you can connect up to the Path of the Gods, among the most beautiful nature trails in the world.

The Myriad Colors of Positano

It is undoubtedly another of the symbols of the Amalfi Coast, famous for the peculiar shape of the village, extending up vertically like a nativity scene with colorful houses.

A spectacle that can also be admired from our panoramic terrace, best of all in the evening, admiring the lights coming from the village while enjoying a cocktail at our Rooftop Cafe.

Don’t miss:
  • the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. It is located near the Spiaggia Grande (Large Beach) and stands out for its dome covered with blue, yellow and green slivers of majolica tiles. Just below the church, you can visit the Roman Archaeological Museum, from where you can access the 1st-century AD Roman Villa
  • the Saracen Towers rising up above the sea: Clavel Tower (or Fornillo Tower), Trasita Tower and the oldest one, Sponda Tower
  • a stroll among the craft stores, a unique one-day experience enveloped in a world of beautiful, unique and original articles. Walking along the main streets you reach the center of the village, where you can shop in the most exclusive boutiques, which sell refined handmade sandals and clothes

Capri, Not Only the Faraglioni (Stacks)

Probably no trip to the Amalfi Coast can be truly complete without visiting the most beautiful island in the Gulf of Naples. Here you can admire the legendary Stacks up close and visit the enchanting Blue Grotto.

Don’t miss:
  • a stroll, starting out from Capri's famous Piazzetta, along Via Camerelle, the luxury shopping street, continuing on along Via Tragara to the scenic point overlooking the Stacks
  • the Villa San Michele in Anacapri, home to the archaeological remains of the writer Axel Munthe
  • the chairlift ride up to Monte Solaro where a breathtaking panorama of the Gulf of Naples and Salerno awaits you. This is truly a unique experience

Amalfi, the First Maritime Republic

Here is the center that gives its name to the entire Coast, a point of interest both for the scenic beauty it offers and for the history it holds.

Don’t miss:
  • the Amalfi Cathedral, which appears in virtually every picture that visitors take. Unmissable background for your most successful selfies
  • a stroll through the characteristic alleyways, until you reach the Valle dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills), where you can admire the remains of the old water-powered mills, which were used in the production of the famous Amalfi paper. Thanks to a special microclimate, the whole area will surprise you for the charming landscape, made up of thriving vegetation and picturesque small waterfalls
  • a visit to the Paper Museum, a former paper factory, where you can go back in time and discover one of the most authentic souls of Amalfi

And Still More...

  • The Path of the Gods
    starting out from Agerola, in about 9 km it reaches the beautiful hamlet of Nocelle on the hills above Positano. It is considered one the most beautiful nature trails in the world, also thanks to its peculiar location, from where there is an outstanding, breathtaking view of the Mediterranean scrubland along the ridge of the Lattari Mountains, which plunge into the blue sea where one gets a view of the island of Capri
  • Furore
    a charming village that extends down along the slopes of the Lattari Mountains to the sea, reaching the famous Fiord of Furore. The village is also known for the production of excellent wine, mountain cherry tomatoes, olive oil and potatoes
  • Conca dei Marini
    a seaside village listed among the most beautiful in Italy, where you can also taste the Sfogliatella Santa Rosa, created in the 17th century at the hands of the nuns of the Monastery. Two other absolute musts here are the striking Emerald Grotto and the watchtower of Capo di Conca
  • Agerola
    the starting point for the Path of the Gods, it is best known for its culinary tradition: Fiordilatte mozzarella, caciocavallo (a type of stretched-curd cheese made out of sheep's or cow's milk), buckwheat cookie, taralli (salty biscuits) and Provolone (a kind of cheese) del Monaco PDO, made from the milk of cows of Agerola
  • Atrani
    the smallest town in Italy is located at the end of the Valley of the Dragon. Its small square is the heart of the village, leading off from which are the typical narrow streets that distinguish the town
  • Ravello
    the town of music, so named for the concerts held in the Gardens of Villa Rufolo, a setting that is unique in the world. Don't miss Villa Cimbrone's "Terrace of Infinity" as well as a visit to the wineries of the area
  • Cetara
    a fishing hamlet, known for its tuna and anchovy fishing, from which the famous colatura, a rich condiment for local dishes, is produced
  • Vietri sul Mare
    it is the last of the villages on the Amalfi Coast and the cradle of artistic ceramic creations. It is a must to wander through the narrow streets of the village to admire the splendid creations of the ceramists who cover the facades of churches and homes.

A Little Further Afield...

On your way to the Tramonto d’Oro Hotel or at the end of your stay, on your way home, you can also stop in the area just a bit to the north, where there are fascinating world-famous destinations such as Sorrento, Herculaneum, Pompeii, Ischia, Naples, the Royal Palace of Caserta and many more.

Breathtaking views

"Situated perfectly atop a beautiful view of the sea as well as the San Barrano church. Easy access to Path of the Gods (about fifty feet from entrance) I had vegetable lasagna and husband had a cheeseburger. Excellent. Staff was beyond courteous and very knowledgeable of area and made our Praiano visit something to remember! Beautiful accommodations. Praiano only place on coast to see sunrise and sunset. Can’t wait to go back."
